Parental part-time

If you are employed under one of Finansforbundet’s collective agreements, you generally have the right to work part-time if you have children under the age of 12.

How does part-time work for parents with children work? 

As a maximum, the working hours can be reduced to 30 hours a week, and the period of part-time work for parents must last for 3-12 months. This gives you the opportunity to spend time with your children while they are young without compromising your career. 

Example 

You would like to take maternity leave at full pay up to and including week 26. From week 27 and up to and including week 60, you would like to work part-time while your husband is taking paternity leave on benefits for 20 weeks from week 27. If you and your employer cannot come to an agreement, you are entitled to part-time employment on half-time in this period, just as you are entitled to your full pension contributions in this period. 

 

Are you entitled to come back to the same job after your parental leave? 

As parents, you are both entitled to come back to the same or a corresponding job on employment terms that are no less favourable. Likewise, you are entitled to any improvements to the employment terms that you would have been entitled to had you not been absent. 

Your employer must not change your job significantly while you are on maternity/paternity leave. Should this happen anyway, this can be equated with a termination of employment by your employer.
